Residents of Old Jefferson are in the qualifying area for the current round of the Louisiana Fortified Homes Program (LFHP) grants offered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. From the program's FAQ, https://ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomesfaq : "The LFHP grants up to $10,000 for homeowners to upgrade their roofs to the FORTIFIED™ Roof standard set by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). The program will help Louisiana homeowners strengthen their roofs to better withstand hurricane-force winds and other severe weather."

JEFFERSON PARISH "GAP FUNDING"
Jefferson Parish has not secured "gap funding" for the FORTIFIED™ Roof program in 2026 per Councilwoman Van Vrancken's office.
FYI -- in 2025, Jefferson Parish ran a Pilot Program and offered up to an additional $5,000 in "gap funding" for a FORTIFIED™ Roof that cost more than $10,000.
